This is the 1^st issue for 2012 of our electronic publication, Executive Direct, to report to members on National Executive news. It is forwarded to members after each Executive meeting. It reports on the last Executive meeting on 9 February (there was an informal planning meeting the preceding day). The next Executive meeting is scheduled for 3 May.  Much of the meeting was devoted to the national DHB MECA negotiations and the organisation of the ASMS Annual Conference the following two days. These are being reported separately. This Executive Direct discusses some of the other matters discussed.

This Executive Direct discusses some of the other matters discussed including: Health Benefits Ltd; Health Workforce NZ's proposal on prioritisation criteria for funding training for medical specialists; a summary report back on the 2011 Salary Survey; and two Medical Council matters.

The intention is to forward it to members after each Executive meeting (at least). It reports on the last Executive meeting on 1 September. The next Executive meeting is scheduled for 16 November (immediately prior to the ASMS Annual Conference).  A feature of the meeting was a session for over an hour with the Chair of the National Health Board (Ministry of Health) Murray Horn and its National Director Chai Chuah. It was interactive and constructive with the Executive impressed by their willingness to listen, question and engage. Much of the discussion was around the issues of clinical engagement and leadership.

It reports on the last Executive meeting on 5 May (which was preceded by an informal strategic planning meeting on 4 May). This was the first meeting of the recently elected new National Executive for the 2011-13 biennial term. The next Executive meeting is scheduled for 23 June.
