The 26th ASMS Annual Conference was held at Te Papa in Wellington on 27 and 28 November 2014, with ASMS branch officers from around the country in attendance.
National President Hein Stander spoke about the relationship between distributive clinical leadership, a joyful workforce and compassionate health care. He was followed by Marise Stuart from the New Zealand Medical Students Association, who talked about the need to invest in a culture of care and teamwork.
The conference voted unanimously to award life membership to Dr Brian Craig for his many years of service to the ASMS, in both local and national roles. After a standing ovation, Dr Craig told the conference he was humbled by the recognition as he had gained so much personally from his involvement with ASMS over the years.
The presentations and discussions that followed focused on strategies to build resilience, the science of happiness, the importance of clinical leadership in eHealth, and job satisfaction and stress. Videos of the presentations will be available on this website soon, and the conference will be covered in more detail in the next issue of The Specialist, due out in a couple of weeks.
